Texas v. Johnson Facts
- In 1984 a man by the name Gregory lee Johnson went in front of a the Dallas City Hall, & proceeded to burn the American flag as a means of protesting against the Reagan administration polices.
- Gregory was tried and convicted under Texas law for flag desecrating.
- He was sentenced to 1yr in jail and given a $2,000 fine
- Texas court of appeals reversed this decision/conviction, the case then went to the supreme court.
